Well, we made it back safely from the mission trip. We left St. Petersburg Friday morning just before Hurricane Dennis hit later that night or the next morning. Fortunately from what I've heard where we were at didn't have to evacuate or anything like that.
I've been on four mission trips in my life...one as a youth and three as an adult. This trip by far was the best of the four. I really don't know why. We had a good staff, good kids, good worksites, but I think the main reason is that the kids were there to grow...whether they knew it or not. I really believe that God was speaking directly to our group individually and as a whole group. The speaker asked Chet one night how he thought her talks were going, and he said that he thought she was talking directly to us. She told him that she had all her talks planned out, but once she got up there everything changed. The other staff members agreed that they were different than what she usually did. If you don't know, Youthworks! is organized where the staff is there for 8 weeks with 8 different groups, so they do the same things over and over again.
We had a great time. There were no complaints from the kids on our 4 days of travel. I think we only stopped 2 or 3 times within each 9-hour travel day, and with 31 people, that's pretty good. My group of kids that I worked with was awesome. They worked their tails off and had a blast doing it. It was amazing to see how some of the kids just finally got it this week.
Anyway, I'm pretty tired so I'm going to quit typing now, but I thought I'd at least update and tell you I was home and I'll be blogging in the future!
Peace out!
Jules
