WHAT'S YOUR PURPOSE?

There was a study done that I heard about recently. This study was about all of the literally thousands of uses of Duct tape. As you know, you can use it for everything. However, during this study it was uncovered that Duct tape could not be used, or at least would not work for one thing. Any guesses on what it was? You guessed it…to seal ducts. Duct tape was made to seal air ducts or vents, but if it gets too hot, the sticky stuff melts, and if it’s too cold, it freezes and either way, it just doesn’t work. Can you imagine that this tape works for everything in the world that you can imagine except for what it was designed for!! I couldn’t hardly believe it.
So I started wondering about purpose. What was my purpose here? Was I doing what I was put on this earth to do? What if I’ve been doing everything but what I was intended for? Those are some heavy questions just brought on by a little two-second blurb about Duct tape!! I had a long night all because of Duct tape.

So I started trying to figure out my purpose and if I was working towards completing my purpose. You want to know what I figured out? We were each created for two purposes and two purposes alone. One of these purposes is to love and worship God with all our heart and mind and soul. You want to know the other one? Spread His Word!! Those are our only two things we have to do on this earth. That’s what we were created for.
Now, I know you’re wondering about what some of you might call the “bigger picture.” To tell you the truth, there is no bigger picture. If you’ve got these things in line in your life, all the rest is going to fall into place. If you’re loving and worshipping God with all your being, then you’re going to want to spread His word. And if you’re doing all that, you’re obviously wanting to do Gods will in your life so you’re seeking Him in every decision you make. If you’re doing that, then you’re doing what you were put on this earth to do.

Each of us have our own jobs to further the Kingdom. Some may lead music at their church. Some may greet people at the door and just give them a great big smile. Some may preach the Word of God every Sunday and Wednesday night. Some of you may be behind the scenes doing things that don’t get too much notice, but the fact of the matter is, we each have a purpose here on this earth, and as long as we’re seeking God and His will for our lives, I pretty sure we’ll be getting closer and closer to fulfilling our purposes here.
